Karma, Dharma, Schlarma

I was born the first child of the second husband,
on the first day of the last month
of the first half of the 20th century.
I was born just past the second hour
of the first day of the last month
of the decade known for the Second World War
and the first atomic bomb.
I was born in the baby boom
One of the new lives that came
After all the killing and the dying
Of the war following the war
To end all wars
The baby boom after the bomb
I was born with the boomers
Who said Make Love Not War
I was born at the tail end
Of the 1940s
So I would know that energy
First hand
I don’t need a boom boom room
I remember the bombs and the bullets
And the killing and the dying
The fires and the flames
I was born in 1949
Where the numbers added up equal five
Five is the end of one hand, one foot
Five is a star
Five is the last finger, the last toe
Five is a mouth. Countdown
One eye, two eyes,
Three, a nostril, four, another nostril
Five, a mouth.
A mouth is for speaking and saying
And singing and telling
And being heard without yelling
But yell if you have toSay, what you have to say
Open, says me, wider than the sky
To say your Peace
